Happy Memorial Day!

found on the internet

Sitting here today, reading a poem "Our Flag is Great", I ponder another time'
I'm reminded, for several years, its come & gone, the "9/11" terrorist crime!
A discernment prior to then, about people's indifference & disrespectful ways,
Left feelings that drastic times were coming, but not as terrible as the "9/11" days.
At public gatherings, people had no thought of reverence for our Flag's history,
For sacrifices made by friends & family, many dying patriotically, to keep us free.
Giving their lives or limbs or minds in times of crisis that threatened our liberty,
Going proudly, knowing this Country grew up fighting from sea to shining sea.
Of course there was concern, not wanting to leave loved ones so far behind,
But knowing in their hearts it was necessary to protect this land, so never mind.
Those not returning believed & fought for freedom others earlier died to earn.
For too long this history lesson escaped many, but was soon to be "re-learned."
Such a sad commentary, we have short memories of freedom they died to earn,
Not adhering to basic principles our founding fathers set out, will we ever learn?
It's noticeable by all those that had loved ones die in War & what it meant,
In war time, when they died, honoring our flag was showing them a compliment.
Those feelings never left this old country boy's thinking or appreciative ways,
Being one of a handful to remove a hat or place a hand on our heart in prior days.
I can too vividly remember disrespect at ball games, parades, or at race tracks,
"No Respect" during National Anthem, only laughing & hollering, a sad fact.
Then 9/11/2001, a dastardly deed causing the current liberating Foreign Wars,
Fighting terrorism in places it originates, pushing it away from USA's door.
Many more personnel in harms way have died over the past several years,
"Memorial Day" gives us pause to be aware of survivor's heartbreaking tears.
So many died for this freedom in establishing frontiers for Liberty worldwide,
Continuing today with our U.S troops, we should support them all with Pride.
For those dying long ago & the ones giving their all now in current campaigns,
To afford so many, a blood soaked Liberty, honor by letting freedom bells ring.
We should reflect continually on the history of our flag & all the lives given,
Maybe pause today, raise the Flag & say "thank you" for a free life we're livin'.
"Another Memorial Day" to appreciate all the fallen since the rockets red glare.
Honor all deceased military at this time on "Another Memorial Day" in prayer.

Sunday joke.

The tearful owner of the chocolate lab came to retrieve her dog last night at 9:00. It was nice to have a dog in the camper again. He was a nice fun boy. I meant to get his name????

ACTUAL AUSTRALIAN COURT DOCKET 12659

CASE OF THE PREGNANT LADY..

A lady about 8 months pregnant got on a bus.

She noticed the man opposite her was smiling
at her.

She immediately moved to another seat.

This time the smile turned into a grin, so she moved again.

The man seemed more amused.

When on the fourth move, the man
burst out laughing,
she complained to the driver and he had the man arrested.

The case came up in court.

The judge asked the man
(about 20 years old)
what he had to say for himself.

The man replied,
'Well your Honor, it was like this:
when the lady got on the bus,
I couldn't help but notice her condition.

She sat down under a sign that said,
'The Double Mint Twins are coming'
and I grinned.

Then she moved and sat under a sign that said,
'Logan's Liniment will
reduce the swelling,'
and I had to smile...

Then she placed herself
under a deodorant sign that said,
'William's Big Stick Did the Trick,' and I could hardly contain myself.

But, Your Honor, when
she moved the fourth time
and sat under a sign that said,
'Goodyear Rubber could have prevented this Accident!'
... I just lost it.'

'CASE DISMISSED!!'

Peter & Judy, day 3.

Day 3 was spent down the hill. We went to Manitou Springs for a look at the cog. Then on to the cliff dwellings. Dave & I & Peter went thru them. Judy, she needs new knees and lower elevation...:0-). The cliffs were cool but you got the feeling there has been a bunch of restoration but then the museum showed photo's dated waaay back and they don't look too different. What I found interesting was there was a Chief Manitou just like there was a Chief Seattle. Those Indians were just everywhere!
The first couple pictures are P & J's rig here at Diamond Campground.

Company, day 2.

Off to Cripple Creek to the casino's. What fun! Did I win? Do I ever? Usually not!
After losing our money Dave drove us to Victor five miles down the road. Victor and Cripple Creek are old mining towns. I love old stuff!

We have company!

Peter & Judy are here! We love company! Hint, hint! P & J arrived about 1:00 on Saturday. After so much hugging and gabbing they finally got themselves set up. I reserved them a great pull thru site but I did not know that their satellite was on top of their rig. Oops, those darn pine trees...NO TV. See there is an advantage to hearing the guys cussing and swearing as they position the satellite....:0-). We took them for a little ride that evening. Then yesterday off to Cripple Creek. Gambling here we come..................

Sunday joke.

Your Duck is Dead

A woman brought a very limp duck into a veterinary
surgeon. As she laid her pet on the table, the vet
pulled out his stethoscope and listened to the bird's
chest.

After a moment or two, the vet shook his head and
sadly said, "I'm sorry, your duck, Cuddles, has
passed away."

The distressed woman wailed, "Are you sure?"
"Yes, I am sure. Your duck is dead," replied the
vet..

"How can you be so sure?" she protested. "I mean
you haven't done any testing on him or anything.
He might just be in a coma or something."

The vet rolled his eyes, turned around and left the
room. He returned a few minutes later with a black
Labrador Retriever. As the duck's owner looked on
in amazement, the dog stood on his hind legs, put his
front paws on the examination table and sniffed the
duck from top to bottom. He then looked up at the
vet with sad eyes and shook his head.

The vet patted the dog on the head and took it out
of the room. A few minutes later he returned with
a cat. The cat jumped on the table and also delicately
sniffed the bird from head to foot. The cat sat back
on its haunches, shook its head, meowed softly and
strolled out of the room.

The vet looked at the woman and said, "I'm sorry,
but as I said, this is most definitely, 100% certifiably,
a dead duck."

The vet turned to his computer terminal, hit a few keys
and produced a bill, which he handed to the woman..
The duck's owner, still in shock, took the bill. "$150!"
she cried, "$150 just to tell me my duck is dead!"

The vet shrugged, "I'm sorry. If you had just taken my
word for it, the bill would have been $20, but with the
Lab Report and the Cat Scan, it's now $150."

Ok, hot yoga!

Right hot yoga. Those that know me well know that I do not do well in the heat. You also know that I love the Yoga class at the Jungle Gym in EB. I did my duty by going yesterday to join the local gym. It happens to be about 3/4 of a mile north of our RV park. The gym has everything you could possibly want. You walk into a two story gym. Free weights are on the first floor. The stairs are in the middle and lead to the yoga, body sculpt, Zumba room. Mirrors on three walls but again too small. To the right, is the spin room. Twenty five bikes, in two rows. To the left ellipticals, stationary bikes and treadmills. Beautiful place. Google at: www.woodlandfitness.com. Back to hot yoga. The instructor is Chinese. First she walks around and sprays some strange air freshener all over. It would help with the class if I could understand a word she spoke. The class is continuous yoga poses. Every time she says something like "If you want to expand, try this" and does the pose as she walks around the class. This goes on for 50 minutes then relaxation. NO blanket needed. She, however, touches your shoulder and breathes with you and strokes your forehead. She does this to every student. The class is about breathing as well. No laughing, no joking, no bonding as we do in EB. I was laughing on the way home thinking about Pam, at the Jungle Gym, stroking each of us. What a site that was! So in summary it all gets back to the ? Who is the best Yoga instructor in the whole US of A? PAM is, PAM is, PAM is. Miss all you guys?????

Happy Baby Pose

Step by Step

Lie on your back. With an exhale, bend your knees into your belly.

Inhale, grip the outsides of your feet with your hands (if you have difficulty holding the feet directly with your hands, hold onto a belt looped over each sole.) Open your knees slightly wider than your torso, then bring them up toward your armpits.

Position each ankle directly over the knee, so your shins are perpendicular to the floor. Flex through the heels. Gently push your feet up into your hands (or the belts) as you pull your hands down to create a resistance.

Coax the thighs in toward your torso and down toward the floor as you lengthen the spine—release your tail bone toward the floor and lengthen the base of your skull away from the back of your neck.

Hold the pose steadily for 30 seconds to one minute. Then release the feet back to the floor with an exhale and rest for a few breaths.

Sunday ride, part 1.

We drove a 150 mile loop yesterday. We had snow, fog, rain and sun. As we turned out of our drive the snow was pretty. The first cool spot was the local golf course. Pike Nat'l Forest is all around us. The next thing we knew we were driving for a long time thru what was the sad remains of a very large fire. We finally decided it was the Hayman fire. The largest fire in Colorado history. It is very ugly. I remember that fire. There was a depressed female forest service employee that was upset about a dear john letter so she decided to burn it. Off to Yoga. I joined the gym today!!!!!!

Here's some facts about it:

Burned area 138,114 acres

Ignition source arson

Land use forest, rural

Fatalities 6

Perpetrator(s) Terry Barton

The Hayman Fire was a forest fire that started 95 miles (153 km) southwest of Denver, Colorado and 35 miles (56 km) northwest of Colorado Springs on June 8, 2002, and became the largest fire in the state's recorded history. Hundreds of forestry officials and firefighters fought the fast-moving inferno, which caused nearly $40 million in damages, burned 133 homes and forced the evacuation of 5,340 people. Smoke could be seen and smelled across the state from Vail, 108 miles (174 km) northwest, to Burlington, 188 miles (303 km) east, and from Broomfield, 120 miles (190 km) north, to Walsenburg, 130 miles (210 km) south. The fire wasn't contained until July 2, 2002 and was finally brought under control on July 18, 2002. The cause of the wildfire was found to be arson.
When then-Governor Bill Owens responded to a reporter’s question following an aerial tour of the fires (“What does it look like up there?”), Owens said “It looks as if all of Colorado is burning today”. Many western slope residents blamed Owens for driving away tourists with the press’s truncated version of the quote (“All of Colorado is burning”).

Sunday joke.

Will I Live to see 80?

Here's something to think about.

I recently picked a new primary care doctor.
After two visits and exhaustive Lab tests, he said I was doing "fairly well" for my age.

I just turned fifty five.

A little concerned about that comment, I couldn't resist asking him, "Do you think I'll live to be 80?"

He asked, "Do you smoke tobacco, or drink beer, wine or hard liquor?"

"Oh no," I replied. "I'm not doing drugs, either!"

Then he asked, "Do you eat rib eye steaks and barbecued ribs?"

I said, "Not much. My former doctor said that all red meat is very unhealthy!"

"Do you spend a lot of time in the sun, like playing golf, boating, sailing, hiking, or bicycling?"

"No, I don't," I said.

He asked, "Do you gamble, drive fast cars, or have a lot of sex?"

"No," I said.

He looked at me and said, "Then, why do you even care?

Reflections of our first week of work.

We made it thru our first week. Dave says his comment would be COLD. He is looking forward to warm EB. We started out with snow. The sun is out now and most of the snow is gone. There are a few very nice functions on the computer program in the office that I have never used before that are very handy. I will share with Terri/Bob and Bob/Martha. The big issue for the office is NO bathroom. I will certainly have to figure something out there! Pee bucket here I come?

All of the people seem very nice. We are seeing the reverse of the SNOWBIRDS. There are 73 seasonal folks that have been coming here for anywhere from a couple years to a lot of years. Doris is 84 and has been coming here since 1979.

Of course, the first trip to town was for my library card. I am reading Janet Evanovich's new book. It is about Diesel doesn't she know we LOVE Stephanie?

We are 5 minutes from about everything. We have not buzzed around town much yet. But there is a wonderful Safeway and City Market grocery store. There is a big WalMart. I lost the car today in the parking lot. There is also a bunch of traffic which I would imagine we haven't seen anything yet!

I bought everything for a boat drink today. Now where it that warm weather?????

Yesterday and today. Hummm what a difference.

It was beautiful yesterday and snowing today. My oh my!
Irma & Denny stopped by for a visit. They are heading back to Iowa for the summer. Denny is walking pretty good with a cane after his ankle surgery. We went to dinner and woke up to snow. And do you know what those Californian's took off down the hill. Wimps......

Our old mountains and our new mountain.

The first photo goes left to right:
Arapaho Glacier far left leads up to Mnt. Meeker, in the front, Longs Peak behind, and the one I have been on top, Mnt Lady Washington far right. This was the view from our house in Longmont. During our drive down from CO we go thru Castle Rock. Here's a picture of Castle Rock. Now, our new mnt. Pikes Peak. The last three are Pike's Peak. We start work tomorrow!
