Another ride, Hot Springs: Mammoth Site and Wild Horse Sanctuary.

One of our perks for working here is a VIP pass which gets us special deals at a lot of places of interest around the BH.  This day we drove to Hot Springs to see the town, go to the Mammoth Site and the Wild Horse Sanct.
As you enter Hot Springs this waterfall greets you.

Way up on the hill was a castle.  We drove up there and it really was a castle but they had built on to it and it is now a nursing home.

My hand and a mammoth tooth!

Welcome to the Black Hills.....

Today's trip is almost a 300 mile loop.  To the Badlands and back.  Enjoy!

Luc is watching as his Dad steals sand for his collection.

Right before the Park Ranger said no dogs off leash!

This one is pretty!

Two sheep.

Yup it's green here.

I must spend some more time shopping at Wall Drug. It was big and Dave
was there.  You don't stroll around and shop with Dave.

Sunday Joke!

Hi,

It's not a joke today but if a golf poem for my brother in law, Scott who smashed his first HOLE IN ONE.

Congrat's Scott.

In My Hand I Hold A Ball,
White And Dimpled, And Rather Small.
Oh, How Bland It Does Appear,
This Harmless Looking Little Sphere.

By Its Size I Could Not Guess
The Awesome Strength It Does Possess.
But Since I Fell Beneath Its Spell,
I've Wandered Through The Fires Of Hell.

My Life Has Not Been Quite The Same
Since I Chose To Play This Stupid Game.
It Rules My Mind For Hours On End;
A Fortune It Has Made Me Spend.

It Has Made Me Curse And Made Me Cry,
And Hate Myself And Want To Die.
It Promises Me A Thing Called Par,
If I Hit It Straight And Far.

To Master Such A Tiny Ball,
Should Not Be Very Hard At All.
But My Desires The Ball Refuses,
And Does Exactly As It Chooses.

It Hooks And Slices, Dribbles And Dies,
And Disappears Before My Eyes.
Often It Will Have A Whim,
To Hit A Tree Or Take A Swim.

With Miles Of Grass On Which To Land,
It Finds A Tiny Patch Of Sand.
Then Has Me Offering Up My Soul,
If Only It Would Find The Hole.

It's Made Me Whimper Like A Pup,
And Swear That I Will Give It Up.
And Take To Drink To Ease My Sorrow,
But The Ball Knows ... I'll Be Back Tomorrow.

Stand proud you noble swingers of clubs And losers of balls!

FACTS!   A recent study found that the average golfer Walks about 900 miles a year. Another study found that golfers drink, on Average, 22 gallons of alcohol a year.

This means that, on average, golfers get about 41 miles to the gallon!

Kind of makes you proud.

What year did you say it is?

Yup 2012 happens to be 25 years of marriage bliss or is it blits?  June 20th, 1987.

Plus yesterday was my sister Donna's birthday.   Happy Bday!

So to reflect on 25 years hum......  Well things just aren't oiled as well as they used to be.  There are more creaks and moans, bad moans, not good moans!!!  The mind doesn't seem to work as good either.  For example.  Our toaster broke and in our house that is a bad thing.  Dave has toast every morning.  Custer, SD has a pitifull, yes pitiful Pamida.  I have never seen such a crappy store.  So off to town I go for a new toaster.  I had several to choose from.  I get it home and all the toast you put in it burns.  I finally decide to look in it and find the the center coils are not even lighting up.  Boy, that was a great buy.  Well guess I better take it back.  That's not a bad idea because I haven't bought Dave's anniversary card yet.  So I get back home to start dinner and DAMN, I forgot the card.  So Tuesday and Wednesday morning I notice Dave rummaging thru things. And guess what?  He bought my card 2 weeks ago and can't remember where he put it.   So we exchanged invisible cards.  That was  a new one!  We had a great day!  Dave had made a doc appt. in Rapid for his ears.  I thought that was a splendid idea!  After 25 years he goes to get his ears checked.  Yes, progress can be made! I'm soooo funny>>>>o-:)  I told him he should just give me the doc $$ cus I knew he couldn't hear.....
After the I do't know what it is doc appt.  we spent the day with Gary & Carol.  Luc spent the day with Cody.  Luc just wishes Cody was a girl.   We went to lunch and shopped a bit downtown Rapid and had an ice cream cone.  It was just a pleasant day.
Here are two nice cards we received .
Linda's card.

Carol's card.
Both are beautiful and handmade.  Thank you!

Then in the mail we received a special baggie with a surprise from Dave's sister Mary.
Mary's note:  I've been saving these for a long time.  How many people give matches away anymore? Yup that dates us.  Thanks Mary. We needed some matches!

We have received a few more cards.  Thanks everyone!  Love ya all  more than you know!!!

Sunday Joke!

How To Stop Church Gossip

Mildred, the church gossip, and self-appointed monitor of the church's morals, kept sticking her nose into other people's business.

Several members did not approve of her extra-curricular activities, but feared her enough to maintain their silence.

She made a mistake, however, when she accused Frank, a new member, of being an alcoholic after she saw his old pickup parked in front of the town's only bar one afternoon.

She emphatically told Frank (and several others) that every one seeing it there would know what he was doing!

Frank, a former Marine and man of few words, stared at her for a moment and just turned and walked away.

He didn't explain, defend, or deny. He said nothing
.
Later that evening, Frank quietly parked his pickup in front of Mildred's house.... walked home.... and left it there all night.

(You gotta love Frank!)

North Dakota Road Trip, Part 4

After visiting the museum and fort Dave wanted to see the Dam where the water surged over and flooded everything last year.  To Garrison Dam we go.

Peek a Boo. I see you!
We connected up with N/L at their house for some chatting and a great game of cards.  The next morning we said our good byes and headed for Roger & Gail's in Grassy Butte, ND.
In deep discussion at the kitchen table.

Phil & I fell in love with the birds at Gail's feeders!

Gail's bay window.
Gail's Grandson, Luc & Phil watching for birds.

Gail's beautiful stain glass.

Gail drove us around to show us the sights. These are the Badlands of North Dakota.

Luc's just along for the ride!

What else is happening in the Grassy Butte area?  One of the biggest oil booms in US history.  Except one thing......... you just don't hear much about it.  The area is growing so fast that the city infrastructure is maxed out so they build man camps with hotbeds. A hotbed is shared. One guy gets it for 12 hours the other guy gets it for the other 12 hours.  It was an eye opening experience.  My first modern boom town.

And a ND buffalo.

It was a great trip with a sad ceremony.
The end.
