Fort Davis and McDonald Observatory
Fort Davis is a quaint little town. The historic inn was a step back in time. Fort Davis, the fort, was active from 1854 to 1861. After closing for a few years major construction started. The end result was over 100 buildings and housing for over 400 soldiers. Buffalo soldiers served from 1867-1885. It closed in 1891.
The observatory is nearby. The star party is the thing to do. We didn't get to go to one the weather would not cooperate. They had other programs that we enjoyed. The observatory claims the darkest night skies in the continental US.
